Join us! Introduction to Nova Scotia is a 10-day course that gives you essential information about living in Nova Scotia and Canada. It will cover topics such as:

Government Programs and Community Services
(Canada’s system of government, benefit programs, citizenship, Canada’s tax system, Nova Scotia’s free community and social service helpline, immigrant services, food banks, Canada Post, Halifax Public Library)

(Canadian money, bank accounts and services, investing, planning for life events, insurance, saving money, shopping, avoiding scams)

(Canada’s healthcare system, health cards, private health insurance, home safety, hospitals, dealing with emergencies, finding a family doctor, healthy living, mental health and wellness)

(Public schools, rules and expectations, sick days, school transportation, snow days, school programs and services, English language support, continuing education opportunities, student loans and scholarships)

(Employment laws in Nova Scotia, employment services at ISANS, job-search strategies, resumes, cover letters, volunteering, Canadian workplace culture)
