About the Program
If you are interested in health care and would like to help older adults, in particular, our Long-term Care Aide program can help. Long-term care aides (LTCAs) assist seniors who live in long-term care facilities with their daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and feeding. LTCAs also are employed in home care, in which they help with housework, meal preparation, and laundry. This program offers:
- An LTCA-specific communications online course (12 weeks)
- An LTCA-specific job search strategies (JSS) online course
- An LTCA–specific tasks training course (online and in person)
- Support in gaining employment and additional training
During the program, you will:
- Advance your healthcare communication skills
- Learn about job-search techniques and workplace culture
To join this program, you must:
- Be a newcomer with permanent residency (PR) status, an immigrant Canadian citizen, or a provincial nominee who has applied for PR status
- Have an interest in assisting seniors with their personal care in a long-term care facility
- Commit to attend and complete the LTCA-specific courses
- Have a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 4+
