ISANS partners with Divert NS to support sustainable business practices

ISANS is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Divert NS that will provide $50,000 in funding to support waste diversion initiatives for our business clients. Divert NS is a not-for-profit corporation that champions recycling and waste reduction in Nova Scotia. For over 25 years, Divert NS has helped build a recycling culture through environmental stewardship, education, and programming, helping to make Nova Scotia a recognized global innovator in waste diversion solutions.

This new collaboration aims to empower immigrant entrepreneurs in Nova Scotia to implement sustainable practices in their operations. The funding will offer $500 to $1,500 micro-grants for eligible projects. These projects may include reducing single-use plastics and disposable products, improving recycling practices, or reducing food waste. This initiative reflects ISANS’ commitment to fostering innovative and environmentally conscious businesses within our immigrant community.

Christine Alvarez, ISANS Manager of Business & Workforce Integration, highlights the significance of this partnership. “Through our partnership with Divert NS, we’re empowering immigrant entrepreneurs to build sustainable businesses that not only contribute to our economy but also implement creative waste diversion solutions,” she stated. “This initiative showcases how embracing diversity can lead to stronger communities and a greener future for all Nova Scotians.”

Sasha Barnard, Business Development Officer at Divert NS, expresses enthusiasm for the program by saying, “We are thrilled to partner with ISANS on this exciting program that provides immigrant small businesses with the resources they need to enhance the sustainability of their operations. It’s a win for both the businesses and their customers.”

This partnership underscores ISANS’ role as the leading immigrant settlement service agency in Atlantic Canada, serving close to 17,000 clients annually across Nova Scotia. “By combining our expertise in immigrant support with Divert NS’s commitment to waste reduction, we’re creating new opportunities for sustainable business growth in our province,” stated Paula Knight, ISANS CEO.
