About the Program
The Professional Practice Program can help you build professional networks, obtain local work references, learn about Canadian work culture, and gain Canadian experience in your profession. As a participant in the program, you lend your professional skills and time, and we will partner you with a local employer for a work placement of up to six weeks. Rather than help you explore potential careers, this program is designed to help you find work that directly aligns with your education and experience.
To be eligible for this program, you:
- Must have completed an ISANS job search strategy workshop
- Must have a resume and be prepared for an interview
- Can't have previous work experience related to your profession or education in Canada
- Need a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level of 5 or higher and must be legally eligible to work in Canada
Here's how the program works:
- First, you talk to your employment specialist
- The coordinator will send your resume to potential employers
- If you are selected, you will be contacted by the program coordinator
- You will work at your work placement
- Your performance will be evaluated by the host employer
- You will gain Canadian work experience, a reference, and meet contacts in your field
