Volunteering in the Community

Our Volunteering in the Community program helps government-assisted refugee (GARs) families to volunteer.

About the Program

Our Volunteering in the Community program helps government-assisted refugee (GARs) families to volunteer. If you are a government-assisted refugee with beginner to intermediate English language skills, this program can offer many volunteer opportunities, such as long-term placements with a communications organization, or short-term and one-time opportunities such as the Bluenose Marathon or the Nova Scotia Jazz Festival. Volunteering will help you meet new people, learn new skills, and give back to your new community.

As a participant of our Volunteering in Canada program, you will:

  • Be matched with community organizations for volunteer opportunities
  • Receive support with volunteer applications and interviews
  • Receive on-site orientations
