About the Program
If you have refugee experience, are looking for an entry-level job in your desired field, and are committed to work, the Wage Subsidy for Refugees program will connect you to employment opportunities in your desired field. In this program, you will gain Canadian work experience and have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills.
Specifically, this program is designed to help you:
- Be safe on the job
- Become equipped to work in your field
- Gain local work experience
- Understand Canadian work environments and essential skills
- Gain full-time employment in your field
The Trades Practical Assessment Program offers the following supports:
Safety Training: complete First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Fire Safety and any other essential training
A paid, 12-week opportunity to demonstrate your competencies in your field and:
- Identify skill gaps with a Nova Scotian employer so you can upgrade your skills
- Improve your immediate communication skills and language level
- Explore how your trade is practiced in Canada and show your qualifications to a potential employer
- Start your apprenticeship journey
- Participate in structured study groups with subject matter experts
- Access trades question bank
- Receive English in the Workplace support, if needed
