Celebrating Our Volunteers: The Value of One, The Power of Many

Across the country, we are celebrating National Volunteer Week from April 18 – 24. This year’s theme is The Value of One, The Power of Many. Volunteer Canada describes it as an opportunity to reflect “on the awe-inspiring acts of kindness by millions of individuals AND the magic that happens when we work together towards a common purpose.”

In keeping with this theme, we want to recognize our volunteers and say thank you for your unwavering dedication over the past year. You stepped up and continued to support those who need it, all while adapting to the many changes brought about by COVID-19. Through your work, you live our mission of helping immigrants build a future in Nova Scotia, and you stride daily toward our vision of creating a community where all can belong and grow.

While some of our programs and services have had to pause volunteer recruitment over the last year, others, like EAL tutors, practice interviews, and Canada Connects have needed volunteers more than ever. Through your support, newcomers have been able to stay connected, practice English, find employment, make friends, and feel welcome in their new communities.

Here is a thank you directly from our CEO, Jennifer Watts:

“Wonderful things happen when we act kindly to one another and when we work together toward a common purpose.

This past year, we globally faced the most challenging crisis of the modern era. At ISANS, we saw hundreds of volunteers like you rise to this challenge by supporting new immigrants to become part of our community and continue to grow.

We recognize the value of caring and compassion that each of you has shown to each other and to our newcomer communities, and we know the power volunteers have in helping us build a more inclusive, just, and welcoming society.

It is time to celebrate! We thank you for the invaluable work you do at ISANS and in the community.

~Jennifer”
