Newcomers learn to camp

Friday was a beautiful day to learn to camp! More than 60 newcomers in language classes at ISANS took part in the Parks Canada Learn to Camp program at Westmount Park on July 13.

Learn to Camp teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to plan and camp outdoors, giving newcomers the opportunity to learn about the areas they are camping in and how to respect and appreciate nature through a Parks Canada lens.

Coordinators walked participants through a number of workshops including how to set up and take down a tent, how to pack for camping, knot tying, and how to cook on a propane stove.

“For a lot of participants it’s their first time going camping. It’s neat to share something that is ingrained in Canadian culture and it’s a great way to get people outside and enjoying nature,” said Emma Rath, one of the Learn to Camp coordinators.

Thanks to Parks Canada! Be sure to check out the photos below of our campers in action.
