The sky was grey but the streets were yellow on Sunday afternoon as more than 250 participants marched from the Garrison Grounds to the Halifax Central Library for the sixth annual Walk with Refugees for a Stronger Canada. New Nova Scotians and life long Nova Scotians took to the streets to show our city’s support to welcoming more refugees to Nova Scotia and to give them a platform to share their voice. Halifax Member of Parliament Andy Fillmore and Halifax’s Deputy Mayor Tony Mancini kicked off the walk with words of welcome at the Garrison Grounds before joining in the Walk. At the reception, Lena Metlege Diab, Nova Scotia Minister of Immigration and Minister of Acadian Affairs and Francophonie,  spoke of the importance of events like the walk in helping create a system of support to help welcome and integrate newcomers into our communities. ISANS CEO Jennifer Watts, launched ISANS support of the UNHCR’s 2 Billion Kilometres to Safety campaign. Kimiya Musbha shared information about life in Kakuma Refugee Camp.
