ISANS Launches Youth Explore! Program with Support from Emera and Nova Scotia Power
We are proud to announce our latest program to support newcomer youth, called Youth Explore! This program aims to help immigrant and refugee youth ages 16-25 deal with issues they face when settling into life in Canada and set goals for their future in their new home. Emera and Nova Scotia Power will support this pilot program for three years with $300,000 in funding from its inaugural Emera Inclusion & Diversity Fund.
“Young people are creative, talented, intelligent, and resilient. For generations, youth have proven that their passion and strength of heart are powerful forces that can create welcoming and inclusive communities,” says Jennifer Watts, CEO of ISANS. “The Youth Explore! program will help newcomer youth address barriers to integration, but also help them feel empowered to carve their own paths and reach their maximum potential. We are excited about this partnership and the opportunities it offers.”
Youth Explore! will focus on newcomer youth who face challenges, especially concerning cultural expectations and goal setting. Participants will be connected and referred to other ISANS programs and community-based opportunities. In addition to the company’s financial support, Emera and Nova Scotia Power staff will provide their expertise and support through tours, presentations, networking sessions, mentoring, and job shadowing.
“ISANS, Emera and Nova Scotia Power share the vision of making communities stronger and more welcoming places to live for all,” says Wenche Gausdal, Director of Programs, Settlement, Community Integration & Support Services at ISANS. “The Youth Explore! program will provide orientation, guidance and mentorship to newcomer youth so that they can fully share their skills and abilities in their new country.”
We look forward to sharing more details with you about the Youth Explore! program over the coming weeks. Stay tuned for registration opening soon.
