MetroWorks Receives ISANS Award for Exceptional Support to Immigrants

We’re pleased to announce that MetroWorks Employment Association is the recipient of the 2024 ISANS Award in recognition of the organization’s outstanding and innovative contributions to empowering immigrants.

“It was a unanimous decision for MetroWorks to receive the ISANS Award this year. Under the leadership of Dave Rideout, the team continues to do exceptional work in the way they support immigrants in our community,” says Paula Knight, ISANS CEO.

The organization’s commitment to helping refugees find employment, continue their education, and grow their businesses has been particularly noteworthy. MetroWorks’s efforts align closely with ISANS’ vision of creating a community where all can belong and grow.

Dave Rideout, MetroWorks CEO, expresses his gratitude for the recognition, stating, “To have an organization like ISANS, with their expertise and status, acknowledge our work means a great deal to us.”

MetroWorks, a local non-profit, has been instrumental in providing comprehensive support to immigrants through its various programs and social enterprises.

“The programs delivered are exceptional in helping immigrants to settle in Nova Scotia,” says Knight. “They go beyond just finding employment and focus on empowering individuals to reach their full potential.”

The ISANS Award, presented annually at the Annual General Meeting, is assigned to individuals, community groups, businesses, or employers who have demonstrated exceptional efforts in supporting the integration of immigrants into the community.

“We help racialized newcomer women prepare for, find, and retain employment, but it’s so much more than just finding a job,” says Stacy Milford, MetroWorks Program Coordinator at the Employability Program for Racialized Newcomer Women. “Our participants learn about life in Canada, form friendships, and gain confidence in themselves and their ability to create a successful life for their families.”

The ISANS Award serves as a testament to MetroWorks’s tireless efforts to create a more inclusive and supportive community for immigrants in Nova Scotia.
