About the Program

Supporting Healthy Newcomer Families helps newcomer families navigate their settlement journey by providing essential information, tools and resources. Interpretation services are available to ensure full participation.

Parenting Programs and Support

ISANS offers culturally appropriate parenting programs designed to strengthen parenting skills while respecting cultural values and routines. These programs also provide opportunities to connect with other parents and discuss parenting strategies.

Our certified family counsellors deliver the following workshops:

Handle with Care (5-week program): Supports parents of children (birth to 6 years) in developing child attachment, bonding and positive parenting strategies, promoting mental and emotional well-being.
Incredible Years (10-week program): Provides parents of children (ages 6–12) with age-appropriate positive parenting strategies to enhance children’s social and emotional development while addressing behavioural concerns.
Additional workshops cover emerging parenting topics, such as parenting teens, supporting children with disabilities and helping children who have experienced trauma.

Families can also schedule individual counselling sessions to discuss concerns and get connected to relevant services.

Building Healthy Relationships

ISANS promotes healthy, violence-free family relationships through workshops and information sessions tailored to the newcomer experience:

Newcomer Family Orientation Sessions: Provide an introduction to family life in Canada and Canadian Family Law, covering topics such as child protection, child safety and positive parenting.
Healthy Relationships Workshop Series: Delivered in collaboration with ISANS Language Services , this 12-session, gender-specific series helps participants:
- Explore healthy relationship dynamics
- Challenge harmful social norms
- Promote gender equality and violence prevention
- Develop conflict resolution and communication skills
- Understand family dynamics and cultural values within the settlement process
Youth Orientation Sessions: Designed for youth ages 15–25, these sessions take place in our Youth and Family Space.

Through these initiatives, ISANS reaffirms its commitment to fostering healthier, safer and more resilient communities.
