Immigrant Advisory Committee

ISANS has officially launched its Immigrant Advisory Committee (IAC) an exciting initiative designed to ensure that newcomers have a voice in shaping our programs and services. The IAC gives past and current clients a meaningful role in guiding our work, strengthening our commitment to being inclusive, responsive, and community driven.

Following a competitive application process, 10 newcomers from diverse backgrounds were invited to join the inaugural committee. Members bring a wide range of lived experiences, representing different countries of origin, languages, ages, and immigration journeys. Together, they help ensure ISANS programs and services reflect the real needs, challenges, and strengths of Nova Scotia’s newcomer communities.

Their work will support:

  • Amplifying newcomer voices within ISANS
  • Strengthening community connections
  • Supporting culturally responsive and inclusive program design
  • Identifying emerging needs and barriers faced by immigrants and refugees

The committee held its first meeting in January 2026, where members were introduced to the organization and engaged in thoughtful discussion about priorities and goals for the year ahead. The IAC will meet bi‑monthly to review key initiatives, provide guidance, and contribute to strategic planning.

The Immigrant Advisory Committee plays a vital role in helping shape programs and services that help more than 17,500 immigrants and refugees each year settle, succeed, and thrive in Nova Scotia. We are proud to introduce our first cohort of IAC members – leaders, changemakers, and essential partners in building a welcoming province for all.
