Networking in Motion
There was great food and conversation at the 6th annual business Networking in Motion at Paul O’Regan Hall on October 17. Over 250 people attended the event hosted by ISANS, in partnership with Halifax Public Libraries and the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored by Business Development Canada (BDC).
Every year, Networking in Motion highlights the contributions immigrant businesses make to Nova Scotia’s economy. It is an opportunity for businesses, start-ups and business community members to build their networks and develop partnerships while enjoying delicious food. This year, the event showcased immigrant businesses and caterers, featuring Middle Eastern, Asian, South American, European, and Phillipino food.
During the event, Russell Hopson, Regional Director, Atlantic Technology Group & Manager, Halifax Entrepreneurship Centre at BDC, announced the launch of their New Canadian Entrepreneur Loan – a loan program for new Canadians to help in their business start-up.
Sherry Redden, Manager of Business & Workforce Integration at ISANS, shared exciting news about upcoming resources for employers and entrepreneurs in 2019. An improved Connections Guide will be published early in the new year and ISANS Skills Match Online Recruitment Tool will get an update as well. The Connections Guide provides essential information for immigrants to start a business in Nova Scotia, and the Skills Match tool will have more ways to connect immigrant job seekers to employers. A new addition is an e-recruitment feature, to expand on the already successful Professional Mentorship Program and help match mentors with entrepreneurial skills to immigrant entrepreneurs.
