About the Program

The Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund (AICLF) is a micro-loan program that helps internationally trained immigrants in Atlantic Canada overcome financial barriers to pursue their career goals. The fund supports newcomers in upgrading their skills, obtaining licenses or certifications and finding employment in their field or a related occupation.

With support from AICLF, clients can:

  • Practice their occupation, whether regulated or unregulated
  • Access opportunities in their field or a related sector
  • Explore career changes that align with labour market needs

Am I Eligible?

To qualify for the AICLF, applicants must:

  • Be an immigrant Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Reside in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island or Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Be a registered ISANS client
  • Have completed training or certification outside of Canada
  • Have their credentials accredited or recognized
  • Not have an undischarged bankruptcy or active collections
  • Agree to repay the loan with interest
  • Demonstrate sufficient English or French language skills
  • Have a return-to-work action plan

How to Apply

If you have already watched our introduction video and taken our eligibility questionnaire, it's time to learn more about the application process and contact the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia. ISANS is the settlement agency responsible for administering the AICLF program in all four Atlantic provinces.

  • Register with AICLF if eligible

  • Work with your AICLF Loan Case Manager to assess your training and credential needs and develop an action plan

  • Complete the micro-loan application with your AICLF Coordinator

  • Meet with your designated RBC Account Manager to sign loan documents if approved

  • Connect with your AICLF Coordinator to release funds according to your action plan

  • Keep your AICLF Coordinator informed about your progress and start repayment of the loan according to the set timeline with RBC and ISANS
