About the Program
The ISANS Community Connections Program bridges the gap between newcomer families and the broader community. This program provides Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs) and Privately Sponsored Refugees access to sports, arts, crafts, nature activities and recreational opportunities. Through partnerships with community organizations, Community Connections helps families engage in meaningful activities that support their integration and well-being.
Participants in the Community Connections Program will:
- Receive support to register for community sports programs (e.g., soccer teams, swimming lessons)
- Get assistance applying for financial aid to cover sports registration costs (e.g., Jumpstart, Kidsport, HRM Affordable Access)
- Enjoy safe and inclusive outdoor activities in Nova Scotia
- Take part in sports, arts, crafts and outdoor programs designed in partnership with community organizations
- Socialize and build connections within the wider community
- Benefit from advocacy efforts that promote accessible programming for newcomers
