About the Program
Long-term care aides (LTCAs) and disability support workers (DSWs) play a vital role for the social, mental, and physical health of people living with disabilities.
Using person-centered care, collaborative care, and positive principles, LTCAs and DSWs help with daily-living activities and may work in many different environments, including healthcare facilities, small-options facilities, or independent-living settings.
This program offers:
- Online communications modules specifically for these roles
- An online job-search strategies (JSS) module specifically for these roles
- Online and in-person training modules for LTCA and DSW-specific task
- First Aid and CPR and safety-training courses
- Support to help you gain employment
- Support for further education and additional training
To be eligible to attend this program, you must:
- Be Interested in supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, chronic illnesses, mental health issues, and physical disabilities
- Be interested in assisting individuals in a caregiver role
- Be a newcomer with permanent residency (PR) status or an immigrant Canadian citizen
- Commit to attend and complete all of the LTCA and DSW-specific courses
- Have a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 4+
