About the Program

The Professional Communication Skills for Nurses (PCSN) course supports internationally educated nurses (IENs) in developing effective communication skills for working in Canadian healthcare environments. Participants learn how to take patient histories, develop care plans, resolve conflicts and understand intercultural communication and workplace norms. 

To participate in PCSN, candidates must have a minimum CLB 6 required in all four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. 

Program Highlights 

  • Focuses on listening and speaking skills in a nursing context 
  • Delivered as an 8-week online, self-study course, with 4-6 hours of weekly independent learning 
  • Supported by a facilitator who provides feedback and assignment grading
