Immigrant Success Stories Series – Shivani Dhamija
Shivani immigrated to Canada in 2011 and was unable to find a job in her field. Not one to be discouraged – she started an Indian Meal Delivery business. Many opportunities unfolded for her. Shivani’s Kitchen was launched – producing authentic, bold spices, ready to use sauces and samosas so customers could experience the bold authentic flavors of India based on her mother’s recipes passed down through generations. The growth and wisdom her mother provides makes her want to support others. ‘I strongly believe the success of Canada is in its people and giving back’ she said.
Shivani’s Feedback on ISANS Business Services
“I landed in Nova Scotia in 2012 and ISANS was my go to organization for all my settlement needs. Even though I got my first job with the help of ISANS support, to start my own business here in Canada was my dream! I quickly realized ISANS had a range of business support services starting from counselling, training, workshops and networking events. My business counsellor and ISANS team are extremely knowledgeable and referred me always to all possible services and resources that contributed to my success today. Even a tiny question I might have, I know they are only a phone call away. They helped me in my financial planning when I was opening my own restaurant (Shivani’s Kitchen) . Today I am running a wholesale business and supplying my products to 70 locations of Sobey’s and other local stores in Nova Scotia. I started alone and now I have a team of 5 and looking to grow further. This would not have been possible without the support of ISANS . If I still face difficulties I know where I can call and get support.”
You can now find her products on the shelves of many retailers throughout Atlantic Canada. This month, she opens her Production Plant to keep up with the demand for her delicious authentic products. Shivani’s Spices and Sauces are gluten-free, no-salt and preservative free using fresh ingredients from our local farmers.
