Growing Strong Neighbourhoods
Garden Helper:
Volunteers meet in the garden on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We clean the garden, plant flowers, herbs, and vegetables, turn compost, and do small physical tasks together. This is a great way to be outside, stay active, and meet new people. No experience needed! You can help for as little or as much time as you want. We meet from early May to early Oct.
Events Volunteer:
Help at big garden events - volunteers will set up tables and food, welcome guests, and help clean up after the event. These events are outdoors and lots of fun!
Activity Helper:
Join small group activities to help set up, welcome guests, and clean up afterward. These activities include yoga classes, cooking classes, workshops and more.
Activity Facilitator:
Do you have expertise as a farmer, gardener, art instructor, woodworking instructor, beekeeper, or yoga instructor? Do you enjoy working with seniors or youth? Our gardeners are eager to expand their skills, and we would love to explore the possibility of hosting a workshop designed by you! This is a great way to build teaching and facilitation skills.

1-2 hour for each class/workshop, plus additional time for planning & preparation.

Become a Volunteer with ISANS
At the General Orientation, you will learn about available volunteer roles, and the next steps to get started volunteering.
ISANS offices are wheelchair accessible, have barrier free washrooms, and a scent-free policy. If you have any questions about accessibility, please contact us at volunteer@isans.ca.
Please note: some of the ISANS volunteer roles require an intermediate to advanced English language level. This is because the roles support:
- newcomers with beginner English levels who wish to be matched with someone who can help them practice their English
- newcomers with a wealth of experience who seek insight into the Canadian workplace and community culture
We do have some opportunities for beginner English language speakers as well!
Volunteers must be 18 years of age and older to volunteer. For those under 18, and enrolled in a high school co-op program, there may opportunities work placements at ISANS.
